Essential Oils

A wide range of essential oils are great for candles and wax melts. Many essential oils offer aromatherapy, mood-enhancing properties when burned that can aid relaxation, reduce anxiety, uplift moods and promote better sleep.

There is robust guidelines and protocol which must be adhered to in order to comply with health and safety standards when making candles for others to use. Strict guidelines in oil to wax ratios are followed and correct wicking and extensive testing is required for every single blend relative to the wax mix and container size and composition used. When properly developed and tested to ensure stability of the flame and effectiveness of burn, provided the user follows user guidelines, candles containing essential oil blends are safe to burn.

Essential oils are naturally derived and can offer additional aromatherapy experiences for the user. There are many levels of quality and chemical composition available which fall under the collective term 'fragrance oils'. The most important consideration when choosing a candle is to understand the quality of the fragrance blend used. The market is flooded with use of cheap synthetic fragrance oils which can release toxic, carcinogenic chemicals such as phthalates, formaledhyde, parabens which not only smell harsh and over powering, but also can negatively impact health. Some of Positively Glowing's candle and wax melt ranges use fragrance oils and some use essential oils. Positively Glowing fragrance oils are carefully selected to contain no harmful toxic chemicals and high levels of natural or bioidentical oils. Bioidentical means a laboratory production of a compound that is found in nature which is non-toxic and reduces the impact on the environment by reproducing it artificially. Essential oils are more expensive and for some there can be a high trade off of a plant or fruit for a very small amount of harvested essential oil. Natural fragrance oils are generally lower cost.
